In studies conducted on Long Covid cases, microthrombus (micro clot) is the leading cause of symptoms. In addition, microthrombi circulate in the body together with lipids and fibrinogens, causing sudden blockages and as a result, Long Covid symptoms develop. The procedure to be performed is the cleaning of microthrombi and LDL, Fibrinogen, Fibronectin in the body. As it is known, besides Braun H.E.L.P system, there are other brands that can clean microthrombus. In order for our patients to reach treatment solutions at a more affordable price, we started to use the Medica Afer Smart model device. The Medica Afer Smart device separates the plasma through a plasma filter from the kndan just like help and transfers it to a second filter. It cleans microthrombus, LDL, Fibrinogen and Fibronectin from the plasma separated by a second filter and ensures that the patient's symptoms disappear quickly.
We offer Long Covid treatment under the management of Prof Dr Hakan Yüceyar and Prof Dr Alper Şener in our clinics.
What is long covid?
The COVID-19 disease caused by the coronavirus continues to surprise us by showing a different face every day. We now know that the disease is not just a flu, that it does not come and go like the flu, and that symptoms can persist for months in some patients.
It has been observed that in 10%-20% of patients diagnosed with COVID-19, symptoms last for more than a month and this is called Long COVID or Prolonged COVID. This group includes patients who have had COVID-19 but have lingering effects of the infection or whose symptoms last much longer than expected. The cause of prolonged illness in these patients is not yet known, but it is thought that constant stimulation of the immune system may lead to this condition. Prolonged COVID is also described as Chronic COVID Syndrome and Post-acute COVID-19 (PASC). While COVID-19 disease is more risky in men and the elderly, Prolonged COVID is more risky for women and has been reported to occur in young people and even children. The most commonly reported symptoms of prolonged COVID-19 are fatigue, shortness of breath, cough, joint pain, chest pain, depression, muscle pain, gastrointestinal problems, headache and brain fog with confusion, inability to focus and difficulty putting thoughts into words. Loss of smell is a long-term complaint that health workers are particularly familiar with. More than 50% of COVID-19 survivors report that their sense of smell has not returned to normal, on average 5 months after infection. When patients were contacted by phone and asked about their condition, they most frequently complained of fatigue, joint pain, and loss of smell and taste.
As expected, having a severe case of COVID-19 and a concomitant chronic disease such as obesity, diabetes or hypertension is an invitation to long-term COVID-19, but another equally influential risk factor is depression. To prevent both COVID-19 itself and its prolongation, we need to remove risk factors from our lives as much as possible.
